Children in grades 3, 4, and 5 (ages 8 to 11) are needed for studies on learning
Thank you for visiting our website! In the Cognition and Learning Laboratory, we are interested in finding out the best strategies for helping people learn. We are inviting children in grades 3, 4, and 5 (ages 8 to 11) to participate in some of our studies on learning.
The studies will involve brief sessions lasting about 30-60 minutes. In an initial session, children will use different learning strategies while they read brief passages about science topics. Some of our studies involve a follow-up session one week later, in which children will answer questions about ideas and concepts from the passages. The purpose of our research is to identify the strategies that produce the best long-term learning. The total duration of participation may vary from 30 min to 2 hours. You and your child will be paid $5 for every half-hour of participation. The minimum amount of compensation is $5 and the maximum amount is $20.
The risks of your child's participation in the study are minimal, no greater than those ordinarily encountered in daily life. Information from the study will only be seen by the research staff and will be kept confidential. Your child's name will never be included in any reports of the study. Participation is completely voluntary. There is no penalty if you or your child decides not to participate, and neither you nor your child has to answer any question that you do not want to answer. Also, your child may withdraw from the study at any time. You and your child will receive payment even if he/she chooses to withdraw.
If you and your child are interested in participating, you may:
